Ruger Precision Rifle: Loading Precision .243 Winchester Ammunition
Once again, Ruger offers a quality product that is guaranteed to beat the competition in this already crowded market! We first had the opportunity to handle and shoot the Ruger Precision Rifle at the 2016 Shot Show. The exterior of the rifle was enough to get our attention. After digging into the details, we were stuck. Ruger designed this rifle specifically for the precision rifle competition shooter.
The Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR) is available in three different cartridges and barrel lengths. The .308 version comes with a 20 inch barrel. The 6.5 Creedmoor has a 24-inch barrel and the .243 Winchester has a 26-inch barrel. Our test rifle was the 6.5 cm version.
The overall design of the Ruger Precision Rifle resembles that of a chassis rifle or "barrel gun". The barrel is flush with the butt tube and the bolt goes back inside the stock. This keeps the recoil impulse in line with the shooter and makes the rifle handle much more like an AR-style rifle than a blowback. Shooters accustomed to an AR15 or large frame AR system will feel right at home in the RPR.
Most entry-level bolt-action rifles come with a basic fixed stock. As a result, the shooter has all kinds of creative ways to adjust the stock. It usually involves foam and mounting tape, and the end result looks like the rifle is recovering from a tragic skiing accident. This does not apply to RPR. The Ruger® MSR blunt is equipped with a combination throw lever and winged screws that allow for instant adjustment of the length of pull and comb height. Dialing a rifle into a shooter of any size is a fairly simple matter. The stock is also equipped with a QD sling attachment point and lower Picatinny rail.
