Ruger Pocket 9mm - Ruger Security-9 Compact 9mm Pistol Review How does the new Ruger Security-9 Compact 9mm Pistol compare to the full-size Security-9? Is a concealed carry gun worth it? Colonel Penn uses his 10 charter screening criteria and field testing to help you decide if it's right for you. He presents the characteristics and specifications of the weapon and presents his personal opinions and recommendations. Holsters, belt and ammo designs are included. I hope this helps you decide whether to wear and try an effective concealer.
A while back I reviewed the Ruger Security-9 full size 9mm pistol and just last week Ruger introduced their new Security-9 Compact pistol. I appreciate the superior performance and features of a full size pistol, so I wanted to try out their new compact short barrel concealed carry pistol. Was it just as impressive and would it work for concealed carry? How can it meet my 10 criteria, especially accuracy, reliability and secrecy? This is my review and field test.
Ruger Pocket 9mm
First, I'll introduce the specs and features for the new Ruger Security-9 Compact. Then I'll compare its specs to some of the full-size pistols I've reviewed before, and then compare it to five similar guns on the market. Next, I will offer some designs for kydex interactive whiteboards, leather OWB and pocket holsters for the new compact, as well as a leather strap option. Look for the 20% discount code on offer. Then I'll present the 10 criteria I use to rate all guns. Finally, I present my range test results (using the included free concealed carry drill), analysis, and how I specifically graded the rifle against each of my criteria for whether or not to recommend it. As always, set your criteria and priorities, do your research and verify my data, information, etc. with yours, for a very personal selection process. You can compare this new gun's features and my analysis to the 21 Best Concealed Carry Rifles in my book Concealed Carry and Concealed Carry Basics.
Ruger 9mm Pistol American Compact
The Ruger Security-9 Compact features the same “Secure-Action” hammer firing system as the full-size Ruger Security-9 pistol and its successful use in the LCP II. The trigger is sharp, short, and smooth, and the gun uses an internal, covered hammer rather than a firing rod, which helps make the bolt easier to shoot. This pistol has the exact proven characteristics of the Security-Six pistol, which represent essential performance, excellent reliability, value and precise ergonomics. It is not a uniquely revolutionary semi-automatic pistol with a highly advanced design, but rather a consistently performing, relatively low cost, ergonomic pistol that meets the basic requirements of concealed carry.
This weapon is not a percussion pistol, but instead has a "single-action" trigger with a double-action, hammer-operated, pre-cocking system. This short, soft pre-cocked trigger reminds me of my own single action guns and I like that. Many will think of it as a single-action trigger because it fires quietly while completing the trigger by depressing the hammer. For safety, the Ruger Security-9 features a trigger safety, an ambidextrous thumb safety, and a recessed hammer grip that prevents the pistol from firing unless the trigger is pulled. It has a Browning slanted barrel lock. This solid value pistol has features commonly found in much more expensive pistols and doesn't feel "cheap". The hammer, like the firing pin in assault rifles, is partially cocked by the recoil movement of the bolt. Pulling the trigger completes the hammer cocking cycle to fire the gun. The result is a unique trigger feel with a short, sharp reset point while being a double-action revolver.
Below I have listed the full size and dimensions of the Security-9 Compact and some comparative specs for several models from other brands with similar lengths mainly between 3.39" and 3.50" The new Security-9 Compact comes with two 10 round magazines, flush but The 15-round magazines that come with the pistol can be used full size Also includes an extension floor plate to grip the fingers for better control Extended 15-round magazines can be purchased Each of these pistols listed below has its own advantages for personal preference.
Both the bolt and the barrel are made of hardened steel, which means that the steel is hardened on all surfaces in the manufacturing process, instead of just hardening the outer surface and keeping the inner surface relatively soft. In the annealing process, a high carbon content is added to the iron mixture. When the parts are heat treated and hardened, all the parts are hardened and hardened from the surface to the core. The goal is to extend the service life of the treated parts. The brushed steel slide is chrome-plated and reinforced with a matte blue finish. The compact, full-size body is made of hard-anodized aluminum and features full-length rails. The body of the chainstay of both rifles is housed in a thin but durable frame made of glass-filled nylon. The non-aggressive polymer grip on all sides is thin, strong and highly impact resistant. For me, it was a comfortable enough purchase to help with control.
Introducing The New Ruger Max 9 Micro Compact 9mm Pistol
Thanks to Ruger for lending us this compact pistol for testing and evaluation purposes. Please know that I am not on their payroll, I was not paid for this article, and I was not moved to say certain things about the gun. I want to be direct and direct with my opinions and thoughts on how I feel about Revolver to really help people. Specifically, I wanted to know how accurate it is out of the box, unmodified? How hard is the trigger pressed? Is the trigger smooth and sharp? How about zeroing the distance for subsequent shots? Is it reliable? What are its advantages, disadvantages and special features? Are there any issues or concerns that would prevent me from carrying this gun? Is this a gun I would recommend for concealed carry and home defense?
